Ordinary Fits has been making some of the best Japanese denim going for nearly 20 years. They produce out of their own facility in Kojima, Okayama, considered to be Japan's denim capital, on vintage mid-century shuttle looms. The credentials are all there: 14oz selvedge denim, a chain-stitched hem, a selvedge coin pocket, hidden rivets, all the things a hardcore heritage denim fan would look for. But what sets them apart for us isn't the spec sheet, it's the fit.
The 108, our favourite style in the range, is marketed as a "loose fit,” but it's really more of an anti-fit, close through the top block but with a little extra room through the leg and a long, low rise, giving it the feel of well-worn vintage Levi's rather than anything boxy or baggy.
It runs generous (the 33 waist sits comfortably in a 32), but it is the wash is where Ordinary Fits really edge the competition. Rather than dry selvedge, they favour a rinse that keeps the depth of colour while removing the shrinkage and adding a softer handle, meaning you can wear and wash them normally from day one. We're currently the only UK stockist, and with good reason, this is denim that more than earns its place as a year-round staple.
